The valley is the former site of a gunpowder works and is now a nature reserve with a number of pleasant woodland trails and the opportunity to view the ruins of the works. Ponsanooth is about 7 miles from Truro on the A39. On the A39 shortly after Perranarworthal, turn right where there is a sign to Cosawes Park Homes. Take this road to Ponsanooth. At Ponsanooth turn right onto the A393, then turn left just after the village stores onto Park Road. Follow this lane up the hill where there is a footpath into the nature reserve.
