Heywood Wood is a woodland which lies on a hillside above the valley of the River Taw in North Devon. At Heywood Wood there is a circular walk which includes access to the earthwork remains of a motte and bailey castle. Heywood Wood is several miles east of Winkleigh which is about 12 miles north of Okehampton. Take the B3215 from Okehampton and at Belstone Corner turn left where signposted to Sampford Courtenay. At Sampford Courtenay at the mini roundabout turn right onto the A3072, then take the next left onto the A3124 (signposted to Winkleigh), then take the next left to continue on the A3124 to Winkleigh. Arriving at Winkleigh turn left to continue on the A3124, then turn right onto Eggesford Road. Continue on this road for several miles, then at a right bend, take a left turning signposted to Bridge Reeve. Follow this lane to the Heywood Wood car park. Alternatively take the A377 from Crediton. On the A377 at Eggesford Station, turn left where signposted to Winkleigh and then turn right, again signposted to Winkleigh. Follow this road until a left bend and here turn right for Bridge Reeve and continue on this lane to the Heywood Wood car park.
